Victorian Downhill Series - Maldon - Round 7

Everyone was out and in fine form for the last round of the Victorian Downhill Series, the series had been a cracker and everyone was keen to ride Maldon, a small town about an hour and a half outside the city of Melbourne. Not too many people had ridden the track before and to everyone's surprise it was awesome. A short track, with the winning time in the low 1:50s, nice and rocky and resulting in many flats.

Super quick and flowy, the times were sure to be close, everyone was looking super pinned and looking for the fastest lines to take!

In the U19 Category, the top 3 places were super tight, and it was on for the overall. Trent and Dean had been close all season and getting very used to the podium!

But in the end, Dean was an 8th of a second faster than Trent and took the overall!

U19 top three:
Dean LUCAS - 1:54.0
Trent PIRIBAUER - 1:54.8
Jai MOTHERWELL - 1:58.1

It was a lot more interesting in the Elite Men, with the first 3 in the overall NOT even at the last race, the Panozzo's and Fearon were absent from this race, and gave other people a chance to see the podium for the first time for the season! Aden Wyver was looking pinned all weekend and so was Sticky Ricky! But in his race run, Aden Wyber came off in the bottom of the third rock garden and sustained a huge injury, sending himself to the St. Andrews tent straight after the race!

Coming down with a smoking time, and fastest time of the weekend, was Rhys Atkinson, who had only appeared at a few races this season and was no real threat to the overall, with the addition of some new comers to the Elite Podium this season!

Elite top three:
Rhys ATKINSON - 1:53.5
Chris WHITELOCK - 1:56.3
Lewis WINTON - 1:59.1

top half is like this, trying to gap alot of them is where people got unstuck. Not bad for a place that or track that was barely used 3 weeks ago and had to get around the DSE/parks man who didnt want that track used originally.

Might not be the hardest track, but it challenged sone fast guys to keep it clean and not get flats.

It was enough for Wyber to have one of the nastiest shoulder tree charges I've seen.

Track was fine, song was fine. I mean, the Aussies are obviously doing something right, just look at the amount of WC DHer's on the scene right now. Same with the English DH'ers. Huge talent but bugger all decent places to ride. I don't think there's one British Downhill Series track that is actually in England!

Sick edit Liam, and yeah, it may not be the most crazy tech course but it's dam fun riding loose and rocky tracks that actually destroy your hands by the time you get to the bottom from the whole course having little rocks/braking bumps all the way down.

yeah song sucked, looks like the kind of DH tracks we have to ride up here in Jo'berg S.A. short, fast and rocky, we've built a few more jumps into them though

That's not even a tough XC course. And yeah, bad music. Really want a Kona Operator though.

are you actually serious @musicformybumhole. Have you seen the stuff coming out of Canada at the moment. those guys are riding bike parks where the trail is so smooth i reckon a carbon fiber roady would go okay apart from the jumps. That's a fair bit of tech through those rock gardens exactly the way DH should be. Good on Aussie tracks. might not be as long as trail overseas but makes up for it in trails that actually test a rider.
